What you must consider before Buying a Bed online?
Buying a bed online seems simple enough, but there a few things to consider before taking making your online purchase.
The photos look great, the reviews are great, the price is great. So whats stopping you from pulling out your credit card and clicking that very tempting buy now button?
Well hopefully nothing is stopping you, but I can tell you from years of selling (and buying) beds and furniture online, there are always a few things you absolutely must consider before making your final decision.
Every single one of us wants and needs a good night sleep. So it is important that we take in to consideration a few critical factors before deciding what is best for you, not mention the ascetic of how this new huge furniture piece will look in your room.
There's nothing worse than having buyer remorse, particularly for such a large bulky item which may be difficult to return if you get it wrong. So here are a few tips which to help you with your decision making process so you can sleep well.
Before I give you my tips for ordering the perfect bed online, let me tell you mistakes that I made in the past, to hopefully save you from the same errors happening to you.
Years ago I walked into a retail bed store to buy 2 bed packages. I took my time and strolled through the shop looking for the perfect bed package. I finally found the beds that I liked. Perfect colour, perfect size, and great price plus the delivery fee was much more convenient than trying to work out how to get it home myself.
I then proceed to do the lay down to test all the mattresses in my price range. Hard soft, medium. I spent a good few minutes on at least six different mattresses. After about half an hour of mattress testing, I’d chosen the perfect bed and mattresses. I then did my bargaining best to get the best price possible for 2 beds, 2 mattresses, and 4 pillows delivered to my door. I was comfortable enough not to pay the $80 per bed for assembly. And rightly so, as I managed to screw them together in about 20 minutes per bed. Once at home everything was perfect. Well Almost!
The first mistake I’d discovered is that although the beds did fit in our rooms, they didn’t leave much room for the bedside tables or for anything else in the room.
I though it I was being the best dad by surprising him with a queen size bed, when realistically and a little more conservatively a king single bed or at least a double bed would've been much more suitable as this bed didn't allow room to fit my sons desk.
Unfortunately the bed company didn’t take returns once I’d thrown away the original packaging, so we were stuck with the beds that we’d purchased. Oh well, at least we had our super comfortable queen size beds to sleep in even if our bedrooms were little cramped. At least thats what we thought.
After about a week we both woke up with back pain. Really bad back pain! I wondered how that could be as the mattress felt so comfortable in the shop. I was convinced that I’d chosen the perfect mattress. But I was wrong.
Unable to sleep with terrible back pain, I sat up and did some research online on how stop back pain in bed. I then did my research into buying a mattress topper.
The online reviews were all so positive about the comfort and solving back issues I just had to order them. A few days later the mattress toppers arrived and I can honestly say that it immediately ended the issue of our back pain. And it turned my bed a totally luxurious sleeping experience from that night onwards.
So in learning from the mistakes I made, I will share the lessons I have learned from this experience so hopefully you can have a much more peaceful and comfy sleep from the very first night in your brand new bed.
How much bedroom space do you have?
Everyone wants a luxuriously spacious bed to stretch out in, but do you have the space for it to fit? When buying a Bed online the website will always display the measurements of the bed and the mattress, however, you need to also take into consideration the rest of the rooms layout and décor.
Most importantly if you want bedside tables.
Bedside drawers are a very important consideration as it helps to keep your bedroom organised and your important things in reach like your favourite books, medication, eye mask and passports to name just a few items.
Your bedside tables are also the perfect space to keep your night lamp family photos and more.
Do you want them on one side or both sides?
Do you need space beyond the bed to walk around or do you want it all to fit snuggly in your bedroom.
You will not just need to consider what is the Australian standard size of the mattress size, which is 153cm x 203cm. But more importantly, to fit your room space, you will need to know the size of the bed frame as they will differ from bed to bed.
How high is your Bed Head Height after adding the mattress?
When buying a bed online without seeing it in person, don’t just take the product images for gospel as the height of the bedhead will absolutely differ depending on the mattress height.
A lower mattress will offer more height of the bed head and alternatively, a thick mattress will take away from the bedhead’s usable height.
Buying a bed online verses in store
There is no doubt that nothing beats the convenience of shopping online. But how does that stack up when comfort plays such a critical role in your purchase?
How high should the mattress be from the ground?
The height of the mattress from the ground plays and important role particularly of you struggle getting down low. For younger more mobile people this really isn't an issue at all, in fact may young people are happy with the mattress laying directly on the floor. However as the years progress, you may need the bed to be a little higher so getting in and out of bed isn't a struggle.
Be sure to measure the height of the bed frame at the point of the slats or base as well as the height of the mattress. Add these two heights together to give the exact height.
It is always very important to double check the measurements when buying furniture online as the actual height can look different from the image.
It is very important to bear in mind that the image of the product may appear larger or smaller depending on the size of the other objects in the photo. For example if the bedside tables in the image are short it will make the bed look taller. And if you are looking at photos of a bed frame, the ad will not give you the dimensions of the bedside tables or any other object in the photo.
Note to self..When ordering furniture online ALWAYS check the measurements before placing your order.
Buying a bed with Storage
There are now a large number of beds available with storage which is very convenient way to keep all you sheets, pillows, blankets and duvets out of sight and within easy reach. This really is a fantastic space saver especially if you don't have loads of spare cupboard space.
Storage beds with drawers are a convenient option to slide out from the front or sides of the bed.
The other storage option is the gas lift bed frames.
These frames are simple to use. The gas lift frame is simple to lift from the bed base with a hydraulic arm to make light work of lifting a heavy mattress.
How much weight can a bed frame hold?
Most bed frames can hold a maximum of 300kgs. This includes the weight of the mattress as well as two people. You do the math from your end. But most beds frames can usually hold two people up to about 130 kilos each.
Why should you buy Bed with LED lights?
Quite simply it doesn't get much cooler than a Led Bed frame. Imaging the look on your teenagers face when walking in their bedroom light up like a Christmas tree.
These ultra cool beds change colours with a range of light settings to create an eye dropping mood. These LED lit beds are not just for teenagers but for those young at heart who want the room to look like no other.
Led bed frames with storage are also a convenient way to store your extra linen and pillows. This kind of convenience is next level cool. Having the led lights in bed head is a convenient option as this not only lights up your room, but can also be used as a night light for reading.
Having lights in your bedhead can also eliminate the need of having a bedside table light, which is great if you don't have the space for one.
You might also be a minimalist and want to keep your bedroom sparse. I've always found that a bedside table is unnecessary collector of dust and household items.
Space to collect things might force you to put things away. This is only in theory of course. The other option for you bed lighting is the bed with lights at the base of the frame. This option looks very sexy indeed however it is not suitable to use as a reading lamp.
